At WA we care about the vitality of places and fostering positive
impacts for people. Our focus lies in working alongside communities to transform
spaces into thriving environments.
Our team of architects and designers develop tools and frameworks that empower communities to make positive decisions for themselves and the environment. Notable projects we are currently working on include the design implementation plans for the Nyagaroon Cultural Landscape within the Cathedral Ranges Cultural Heritage context, led by the Taungurung Land and Waters Council. Our recent work has been exhibited as a part of the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale - Australian Pavilion.
WA operates as a collaborative network, connecting our in-house team with a growing range of external partners. This structure cultivates an ecosystem of shared knowledge. Our approach underlines that innovative solutions can arise from diverse perspectives, integrating the unique features of each situation with shared patterns and queries.

Team
Ben Waters
Born and raised in South West Victoria, my understanding of the world has been deeply informed by living and working in regional areas. Being a practising architect for 10 years now, I combine my directorship at WA with a Creative Practitioner position at the Melbourne School of Design, UoM. This confluence of roles enables me to delve into the narratives that underscore our projects, elevating certain aspects to a research level. It is a process that enriches both the methodology and content of our work, allowing us to shape spaces that truly resonate with their context and community.
Mitchell Pollard
Born in Western Australia and based in Melbourne Victoria, my work at Waters Architects is paired with ongoing Master of Architecture Studies at the Melbourne School of Design, UoM. My travels along communities from my upbringing on the coast to my life in the city informs my understanding of relationships and community within our design process and is executed in the practice work with a sensibility for design language and graphic communication.
Wandering Office
The 'Wandering Office' is not a static structure but rather
a dynamic workspace that moves with our team as we delve into various
communities and regions. By positioning ourselves directly within these
locales, we gain invaluable insights that inform our designs and strategies,
ensuring they resonate with the local context. This approach also underscores
our commitment to regional sustainable development. It encourages us to seek
innovative solutions that not only enhance the experience of places, but also
promote long-term ecological balance and cultural resilience.
