We are a design consultancy that works on both client led, and self-initiated projects in the city and in the country. For our clients, we offer a range of architectural services from design feasibility to project management. Our own projects are focused on building and developing spaces to live and work in, the programming of places, as well as intensive research.
Our process is collaborative, creative and flexible. We listen – to understand the specific needs, opportunities and challenges of each project. We see good design as a process that engages multiple stakeholders, establishes consensus, and creates positive transformations for people, communities and ecologies. In an industry that consumes and often wastes so much, we work hard to do no unnecessary harm.
Ben Waters Architects has offices in Melbourne and in South West Victoria, and produces architectural services and research through a mix of facilities and initiatives.
Current research and collaborative projects include PLAIN - Constructing Nature Out West - a design and research studio based at the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne, investigating the impacts of urban growth on the ecology of Victoria’s Western Plains. Ben Waters Architects is also collaborating with Monash Urban Lab as a part of the Great Swamp Regenerative Park project, multi-disciplinary study that offers a provocation to create a new regenerative and recreational park within the fragile landscapes of Western Port Bay, Melbourne.

Architect - RAIA ARBV
Ben Waters is an architect and founder of Ben Waters Architects. Ben has over 12 years experience practicing architecture both locally and internationally. After graduating from RMIT University and Parsons School of Design, New York, Ben was awarded a residency position at Berlin’s Centre for Art and Urbanistics (ZKU). In 2019 held a residency in digital innovation at ACMI X Melbourne. Ben currently leads Master of Architecture Design Studios at the University of Melbourne, MSD.
Ben is a registered architect with the Architects Registration Board of Victoria, and a member of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Belinda Yang, Graduate of Architecture
Belinda has recently completed her studies at the Melbourne School of Design, Unversity of Melbourne. Throughout her Master of Architecture degree, Belinda has gained experience working on residential, cultural and commercial projects throughout Victoria. In addition to being a valued member of Ben Waters Architects, Belinda also teaches in the Bachelor of Architecture course at the Melbourne School of Design, UoM.
